After months of sleeping on the ground, I could not be happier to say that every child at the Keumbu Rehema Childrens Home now has his or her own bed!! How? Let me explain...
Through a mutual friend, the non-profit organization Trekking For Kids contacted me. Trekking For Kids organizes awesome adventures, like climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro and hiking to the base camp of Mt. Everest, then donates the profits to local charitable organizations. When Trekking For Kids contacted me, they wanted to see how they could help Arrive. My first thought was BEDS. After months of the kids (and even myself) sleeping on the cold hard ground, and even being attacked by biting safari ants (click here for that story), beds for everyone instantly came to mind. To have beds at the Keumbu Rehema Childrens Home would be a major, needed improvement.
Trekking For Kids went above and beyond to help us here in Keumbu. Not only did they buy for us 15 bunk beds, but they also bought 30 mattresses, 30 pillows, and donated 30 backpacks. Previously, the kids had to carry their books to school in plastic bags that constantly ripped. Now, every child has his or her own bed, complete with mattress, blankets, and pillow, and a backpack to carry their school supplies.
The kids couldn't have been more excited as everything was being delivered. First the bunk beds came and everyone helped assemble them. Then the mattresses and pillows, piled high on the back of a pickup truck. And finally, the Jansport backpacks.
For many of our kids, this is their first bed of their life. So you can imagine the joy Trekking For Kids has given the kids of the Keumbu Rehema Childrens Home. Thank you Trekking For Kids!!
